Towards a Quantitative Evaluation of Geospatial Metadata Quality in the Context of Semantic Interoperability

چکیده
Semantic interoperability is a process to facilitate the reuse of geospatial data in a distributed and heterogeneous environment. In this process, the provided geospatial metadata that are appropriate for the intended use may be incomplete or not appropriate for data reuse. Thus, the external quality (fitness for use) of these metadata seems important for data reuse, since it has the potential to protect reusers from the risk of misinterpreting geospatial data. In this paper, we aim to provide a step forward in making re-users aware of the quality of geospatial metadata. We introduce a set of indicators for geospatial metadata quality and we propose a method to evaluate them with respect to the context of re-users. Based on this evaluation, we derive warnings that indicate the degree of risk of data misinterpretation related to metadata quality in the context of semantic interoperability.

A Real Time Semantic Interoperability Framework for Ad Hoc Network of Geospatial Databases: Disaster Management Context
Disasters are events that cross geographical, organisational and other human-made or natural boundaries. Therefore, disaster management requires that various geospatial data producers and users collaborate together in an ad hoc manner, despites their different background and contexts. While semantic interoperability is meant to support meaningful communication between geospatial databases, sema...
متن کاملSemantic Provenance Registration and Discovery using Geospatial Catalogue Service
A geospatial catalogue service allows geospatial users to discover appropriate geospatial data and services in a Web-based distributed environment. Metadata for geospatial data and services is organized structurally in catalogue services. Provenance for geospatial data products, as a kind of metadata describing the derivation history of data products, can be managed in a same way as other kinds...
متن کاملTowards Educational Metadata Interoperability on Semantic Web
Metadata is broadly used to describe learning objects and its standards have been developed to improve interoperability. With the current Web extension by the Semantic Web, learning object metadata has been migrating from XML-based metadata formats to semantic metadata formats. This work explores XSLT to provide a solution for this transition of descriptions to educational metadata. The approac...

The increasing reliance on information gathered from the web and other internet technologies raise the issue of trust. Through the development of semantic Web, One major difficulty is that, by its very nature, the semantic web is a large, uncensored system to which anyone may contribute. This raises the question of how much credence to give each resource. Each user knows the trustworthiness of ...
